University of Florida ( Translation Studies Certificate)

The Certificate will be conferred upon successful completion of 15 credit hours. The complete program includes two foundation courses, two electives and a Practicum in the form of an internship or a free-lance translation project. Instruction will use state-of-the-art technology to provide training in the theory and practice of translation.
An entrance exam and an exit exam are required to demonstrate translation proficiency in the source and target languages. We encourage students to specialize in a translation area such as medical, technical, legal, government, literary or translation for business purposes. The Practicum will reflect this specialization.
This program focuses on text translation. Courses in interpretation are offered through affiliate institutions and may be counted as transfer credit toward the Certificate.
The program provides career opportunities for UF graduates and addresses the need at the state and national level for qualified translators in government, business, law and health care. The program is recognized by the American Translator's Association (ATA) and will prepare students for individual ATA accreditation. We also encourage students to become members of the Florida chapter of ATA (FLATA).
The Certificate may be credited toward the major or the minor at the discretion of each affiliated UF department or affiliate institution.
The Translation Studies program is administered by the Center for Latin American Studies, in collaboration with affiliated departments and schools.
