Program of study in foreign language
Abraham Baldwin’s program of study in foreign language provides students with the first two years of a four-year degree in foreign language. All of the courses in the freshman and sophomore years are designed to transfer to a senior college or university. Those students who complete the foreign language program at Abraham Baldwin earn an Associate in Arts degree; courses taken during the junior and senior years lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree in a foreign language.
Graduates with the Associate in Arts degree from Abraham Baldwin and the Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign language from a four-year institution have several options open to them. Most foreign language graduates go into teaching. Since there is currently a shortage of foreign language teachers in our state, opportunities abound at practically all levels. Students desiring to teach in public schools will need to take additional courses required for certification. Foreign language graduates who wish to teach at the college or university level will continue working on graduate degrees in foreign languages. The foreign language undergraduate major is also excellent preparation for additional studies and careers in translating and interpreting, international finance and commerce, government and diplomatic service, criminal justice and international law, science and medicine, and the arts.
