The Tseng College of Extended Learning
Launched in 2002, The Tseng College's Court-Interpretation certificate program is the largest and fastest growing court-interpretation program in the United States. It is endorsed by the Judicial Council of California and the courts of Los Angeles County, California.
Our program prepares you to take and pass both the written and oral parts of the examination required for certification as a court interpreter by the state of California.* Some courses also qualify for Court Interpreting Minimum Continuing Education (CIMCE) credit – necessary for maintaining certification once obtained.
Our program is the only interpretation certificate program that develops skills in both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation and sight reading translation concurrently and in every class. (Other programs develop these three skills sequentially, from semester to semester.)
* The CSUN Court-Interpretation certificate program is currently offered for those who are bilingual in Spanish and English. We also offer Armenian/English interpretation series, Other-Than-Spanish interpretation series, Translation series, Skill Enhancement courses, and Other Language courses.
Program Objectives
To provide students with core interpreting skills To provide a thorough knowledge of the ethics of professional interpreting To provide opportunities for earning a good living through use of bilingual skills To provide the knowledge, confidence and competency to pass the state certification examination for court interpreting To provide trained interpreters who can ensure accuracy of expression in legal actions
